The 12th International Symposium on Hazards, Prevention, and Mitigation of Industrial Explosions (ISHPMIE) is being hosted by Fike Corporation. This symposium is aimed at providing valuable opportunity, in which scientists on explosion phenomena and specialists on industrial explosion hazards can meet together and exchange their ideas and information.

What To Expect At the Symposium:

Each day is filled with educational sessions on the various topics relevant to the industry and additional events including a banquet dinner, visits to the Fike Remote Testing Site, and other activities in the Kansas City area. Attendees who wish to join the banquet dinner will have the opportunity to listen to Keynote speaker, Guy Colonna, Division Director at NFPA.

Get to Know Guy Colonna

We are excited to announce Guy Colonna as the keynote speaker for the Thursday evening banquet dinner. Read more about this excellent speaker and the exciting work he has been a part of over the years.

Guy Colonna, ISHPMIE 2018 keynote speakerGuy Colonna is the Senior Director, Engineering, and Senior Principal Engineer for the National Fire Protection Association. He has been with NFPA for 32 years and holds engineering degrees from the US Coast Guard Academy and Stanford University.  He is also a registered professional engineer in chemical engineering in Massachusetts.

His past responsibilities at NFPA have included management of industrial and chemical fire protection standards development projects dealing with safeguards at dust hazard process locations, explosives, industrial fire brigades, explosion protection systems including venting of deflagrations, chemical classification, and pyrotechnics and special effects.

He developed and instructs NFPA’s confined space safety training courses, combustible dust and explosion protection seminars, and hot work safety awareness training.  He has previously served as the Executive Secretary to the Industrial Fire Protection Section of the NFPA.  He has served on Department of Transportation and Department of Labor-OSHA advisory committees representing NFPA.

He is the author of technical papers and presentations on confined space safe practices, hot work safe practices, chemical hazard identification and classification, combustible dusts fire and explosion hazard protection, and pyrotechnics and special effects.  He is the editor of the NFPA Guide to Combustible Dusts.

He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and American Society of Safety Professionals (formerly ASSE).

Fike’s Remote Testing Site

Exclusive this year, Tuesday and Thursday will each feature a visit to the Fike Remote Testing Facility in Blue Springs, Missouri. Attendees will experience a live explosion and pressure relief demonstration and a chance to talk direct with the experts running the facility. These events are limited to 100 attendees each day. In order to attend, you must have a paid registration and submit your request to ISHPMIE2018@fike.com or sign up on August 12 at the registration desk at Westin.
