Galleries

Combustion in a gallery may occur from a variety of sources, including an electrical short, malfunctioning overhead lights, overheated HVAC or even arson. Special hazard fire suppression is critical for these applications because sprinkler systems may cause as much damage if not more than the fire itself.

VESDA-VES

Detection

Due to the spacious environments, Fike recommends VESDA air sampling to quickly identify smoke particles resulting from combustion. Furthermore, the non-intrusive air sampling pipe network may be elegantly integrated into the gallery’s interior design.

3M Novec

Suppression

Fike recommends chemical agents because of their ability to reach full concentration in less than 10 seconds, which ensures the protection of precious assets. Water mist may also be used as the primary suppression method or in tandem with chemical agents to meet any code requirements which require water-based fire protection.

FCP-300ECS

Fire Control Panel

Fike FCP supports all Fike IDP detection devices and early warning detection systems such as air sampling, and includes voice evacuation to meet mass notification requirements as described in UL 2572. FCP may also be paired with Fike Cheetah® Xi or SHP PRO® for fire suppression releasing capabilities.

Security & Control Rooms

Common hazards are the result of electrical fires caused by computer hardware and controls.

VESDA-VES

Detection

Because control rooms and security rooms are typically smaller in scale than other areas of the cultural site, spot detection is standard in these applications. However, for extra reliability, VESDA air sampling may also be used.

Inert Gas

Suppression

Viable suppression strategies include chemical agents, inert gas and water mist for control rooms. If an electrical cabinet is present, Fike’s small space suppression may be wired throughout to provide localized suppression within the electrical cabinet.

Backup Generators

Fuel leaks are common in diesel engines and can quickly ignite if reached by an ignition source.

VESDA-VES

Detection

Flame detectors can instantly identify the incipient stages of combustion. Combined with Fike Analyics, these devices also have the ability to detect oil leaks before combustion occurs. Otherwise, basic spot detection may be used.

Inert Gas

Suppression

Because diesel engines have the ability to produce large fires, water mist (Fike DuraQuench®) is ideal for these applications and uses FM-approved data center nozzles. One DuraQuench pump skid may be zoned to protect multiple applications.
